Queens Gate Mews

This perfectly formed cantilevered staircase connects the upper and lower ground floors of a luxury mews home refurbishment in Kensington.

Limited space and a need to coax natural light down into the apartment led to a stair designed to hide any supporting structure. Steel stringers were hidden behind plaster finishes and cantilevered steel treads were clad in timber.

Two toughened glass panels were clamped to the steel tread supports which formed the inner balustrade and acted as a handrail. Timber cheeks were added to give the impression of treads protruding through the glass.

Designed and project managed during my time with Elite Metalcraft.
